Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® for Wrinkled and Dehydrated Hands

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment designed primarily to improve skin quality rather than create the projection or fullness associated with a traditional dermal filler.

It contains stabilised complexes of high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. Once placed beneath the skin, it spreads through the treatment area to support hydration, elasticity and skin remodelling.

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator may help improve:

  • Fine wrinkles
  • Mild crepey skin
  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Early loss of elasticity
  • Thin, dull-looking skin
  • Mild skin laxity

What Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator cannot do

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator does not provide the same degree of volume replacement as CaHA or a volumising dermal filler. Patients with significant hollowing, very visible tendons or prominent veins may benefit more from CaHA treatment or a combined approach.

Published evidence suggests Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator and related hybrid hyaluronic acid complexes may improve hydration, elasticity, skin density and laxity in several anatomical areas, including the hands. The available evidence remains smaller than that for some established hand fillers, and results vary between individuals.

Typical Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator treatment timeline

A personalised course commonly includes:

Calcium hydroxylapatite, usually shortened to CaHA, is a biostimulatory injectable treatment that can restore volume while supporting longer-term collagen production.

A 52-week study found that improvement could remain visible at 12 months in some patients, although the degree of improvement reduced over time.

Important CaHA considerations

CaHA must be injected by an appropriately trained medical practitioner with detailed knowledge of hand anatomy. Blood vessels, tendons and other important structures lie beneath the thin skin of the hand.

Temporary swelling, bruising and difficulty performing some hand activities can occur. Lumps or nodules are less common but recognised complications. CaHA is contraindicated in people with certain severe allergies, known hypersensitivity to its components or bleeding disorders.

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, CaHA cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Careful patient selection, product placement and treatment technique are therefore essential.

The Erbium Glass 1550 nm laser is a non-ablative fractional laser. It creates controlled microscopic treatment zones within the dermis while leaving surrounding tissue intact.

The treatment stimulates a controlled healing response and supports gradual collagen remodelling without removing the entire surface layer of the skin.

Erbium Glass laser may help improve:

Clinical evidence for 1927 nm fractional Thulium treatment has shown improvements in pigmentation, elasticity, wrinkles and overall photoageing. However, much of the published evidence relates to facial treatment, so suitability and expected outcomes for the hands must be assessed individually.

Strict sun protection is essential before and after treatment to reduce the risk of recurrent pigmentation or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Fractional CO₂ laser is a more intensive ablative resurfacing treatment. It creates microscopic columns of controlled ablation and thermal injury within the skin while leaving areas of untreated tissue between them to support healing.

CO₂ laser treatment may provide more significant resurfacing than non-ablative lasers, but it is associated with greater downtime and a higher risk of complications.

The skin on the hands can heal differently from facial skin. Conservative settings, careful aftercare and appropriate patient selection are especially important.

Risks of CO₂ laser treatment

Potential risks include:

Active infection, recent sunburn or significant sun exposure, pregnancy and breastfeeding are among the commonly recognised reasons to defer fractional CO₂ resurfacing.

Patients with darker skin tones may have a greater risk of pigmentation changes and may require skin preparation, conservative settings or a different treatment option.

The best treatment depends on the features causing the hands to look older.

For dry, thin or mildly crepey skin

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator may be recommended to improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality.

For prominent veins, tendons and volume loss

CaHA injections may help restore soft-tissue support and make underlying structures appear less visible.

For fine wrinkles and textural damage

Erbium Glass 1550 nm laser may stimulate collagen with relatively limited downtime.

For brown spots and uneven pigmentation

Thulium 1927 nm treatment may be recommended, sometimes in combination with Erbium Glass laser.

Ageing hands frequently have more than one concern. For example, a patient may have volume loss, thin skin, wrinkles and pigmentation at the same time.

A staged combination plan may include:

  1. CaHA injections to restore volume and soften visible tendons and veins.
  2. Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator to support hydration and skin quality.
  3. Erbium Glass 1550 nm laser for collagen remodelling and fine wrinkles.

Injectable and laser treatments should not necessarily be performed at the same appointment. Adequate time may be required between procedures to allow swelling and inflammation to settle.

Blood-thinning medication does not always prevent treatment, but it can increase bruising and bleeding. Prescribed medication must not be stopped without advice from the prescribing clinician.

Immediately after treatment

Depending on the procedure, patients may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, small injection marks or a warm sensation.

Days 1–3

Bruising and swelling may become more noticeable after injectable treatment. Following laser treatment, the skin may feel dry, rough or sensitive.

Days 3–7

Mild injectable-related swelling usually improves. Following Thulium, Erbium Glass or light fractional laser treatment, temporary bronzing or flaking may occur.

Days 7–14

Most superficial laser-related effects should be settling. Recovery after stronger CO₂ treatment may take longer.

Weeks 4–8

Hydration, texture and early collagen-related changes may become more visible. Further sessions may be performed when appropriate.

Months 3–6

Collagen remodelling continues, and the final improvement from laser or biostimulatory treatment becomes easier to assess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can wrinkled hands be treated without surgery?
Yes. Injectable bioremodelling, CaHA, fractional lasers and resurfacing treatments can improve several features of ageing hands without surgery. However, non-surgical treatment cannot remove large amounts of excess skin.
They treat different concerns. Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator is generally used to improve hydration, elasticity and skin quality. CaHA may be more appropriate when there is significant volume loss, prominent tendons or visible veins.
Restoring volume can make veins and tendons appear less prominent, but it does not remove the veins themselves. The degree of improvement depends on the amount of volume loss, skin thickness and vein size.
Thulium 1927 nm laser may be suitable for widespread superficial pigmentation and sun damage. Other pigment-specific technologies may be more appropriate for individual brown spots. All pigmented lesions should be assessed before cosmetic laser treatment. A suspicious lesion should not be treated cosmetically without appropriate medical evaluation.
Mild crepey skin may respond to Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator, diluted CaHA or Erbium Glass laser. More advanced wrinkling may require a combination treatment or fractional CO₂ resurfacing.
