More Conditions

Crepey chest and décolletage skin refers to thin, finely wrinkled or loose skin affecting the upper chest and cleavage area. The skin may appear crinkled, dry, unevenly pigmented or sun damaged, with vertical lines that become particularly noticeable when lying on one side or wearing low-necked clothing.

The décolletage is frequently exposed to sunlight but often receives less skincare and sun protection than the face. It also has thinner skin and fewer oil glands, making it more vulnerable to dryness, collagen loss and visible signs of ageing.

At Skin and Scar Care Clinic, we offer medically led treatments for crepey chest skin, cleavage wrinkles and décolletage photoageing. Depending on the underlying concern, your personalised treatment plan may include:

  • Fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing
  • Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® skin bioremodelling
  • Diluted or hyperdiluted calcium hydroxylapatite
  • Fractional 1927 nm thulium laser
  • 1550 nm Erbium Glass laser
  • Endolift® (laser-assisted skin tightening and collagen stimulation)
  • A staged combination of injectable and energy-based treatments

The aim is to improve skin hydration, firmness, texture, pigmentation and collagen support without creating an artificial or overfilled appearance.

The décolletage is the area extending from the lower neck across the upper chest and cleavage.

Common concerns affecting this area include:

  • Crepey or crinkled skin
  • Vertical cleavage lines
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Loose or thinning skin
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Sunspots and lentigines
  • Redness and visible capillaries
  • Rough skin texture
  • Loss of firmness
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Age-related thinning

Some patients primarily have wrinkles and crepiness, while others have a combination of pigmentation, redness and skin laxity. Correctly identifying these components allows us to select the most appropriate treatment combination.

Natural Ageing

Collagen, elastin and naturally occurring hyaluronic acid gradually decline with age.

As the structural framework of the skin weakens, the décolletage may develop:

  • Fine lines
  • Reduced elasticity
  • Thinning
  • Dryness
  • Looseness
  • A finely crinkled appearance

Age-related changes may be accelerated by hormonal changes, cumulative sun exposure and lifestyle factors.

Sun Damage

Ultraviolet exposure is one of the most important causes of chest and décolletage ageing.

The upper chest is regularly exposed when wearing open-necked clothing, yet sunscreen is often applied less consistently than on the face.

Long-term sun exposure can cause:

  • Brown sunspots
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Redness
  • Visible blood vessels
  • Roughness
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Loss of elasticity
  • Mottled red-brown discolouration
  • Precancerous actinic changes

Sun-related décolletage ageing is sometimes described as poikiloderma, particularly when redness, brown pigmentation and skin thinning occur together.

Sleeping Position

Sleeping repeatedly on one side can compress the chest and create vertical folds between the breasts.

Initially, these lines may disappear after waking. As collagen and elasticity decline, they may become visible throughout the day.

Menopause and Hormonal Changes

Reduced oestrogen during and after menopause can affect:

  • Collagen production
  • Skin thickness
  • Hydration
  • Elasticity
  • Wound healing
  • Fat distribution

The skin may therefore become thinner, drier and more crepey around the neck, chest, arms and hands.

Genetics

Genetics influence natural skin thickness, collagen quality, pigmentation and how quickly visible signs of ageing develop.

Weight Loss and Weight Fluctuations

Significant or repeated weight changes can stretch the skin and reduce its ability to retract fully.

Smoking

Smoking reduces circulation and contributes to collagen and elastin breakdown.

Dryness and Inadequate Skincare

The chest has fewer sebaceous glands than the central face and may become dry more easily.

Breast Size and Mechanical Folding

Larger or closely positioned breasts may create repeated compression and folding within the cleavage.

  • Crepey chest skin
  • Cleavage wrinkles
  • Vertical chest lines
  • Fine décolletage wrinkles
  • Mild or moderate skin laxity
  • Thin or dehydrated chest skin
  • Sunspots and uneven pigmentation
  • Mottled sun damage
  • Redness and visible capillaries
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Photoaged skin
  • Mild stretch marks
  • Reduced skin firmness
  • Age-related chest changes

Before recommending treatment, we assess:

  • Whether the main concern is pigmentation, redness, wrinkling or laxity
  • Skin thickness and hydration
  • The depth of cleavage lines
  • The degree of sun damage
  • Skin type and risk of pigmentation
  • Previous laser, injectable or surgical treatment
  • History of hypertrophic or keloid scarring
  • Medication and medical conditions
  • Recent tanning or sun exposure
  • Breast surgery, implants or radiotherapy
  • Your expectations and available recovery time

Fractional CO₂ Laser for Crepey Chest Skin

Fractional CO₂ laser is an ablative resurfacing treatment that stimulates collagen remodelling, skin contraction and surface renewal.

Endolift® for Décolletage Tightening

Endolift® is a minimally invasive laser fibre treatment that delivers controlled thermal energy beneath the skin to stimulate collagen contraction and remodelling.

It may be particularly useful for:

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity of the chest
  • Crepey skin with loss of firmness
  • Early tissue descent in the décolletage
  • Patients seeking tightening without surgery

How Endolift® Works

A very fine laser fibre is introduced into the superficial subdermal plane, delivering targeted energy that:

  • Stimulates collagen contraction
  • Improves skin firmness
  • Enhances tissue support
  • Gradually tightens lax skin

Benefits of Endolift®

  • Minimally invasive approach
  • No surgical incisions
  • Progressive skin tightening
  • Natural-looking improvement
  • Can complement laser resurfacing or injectables

Limitations

Endolift® does not primarily treat:

  • Surface pigmentation
  • Deep wrinkles alone
  • Severe excess skin

It is best used as part of a combination approach.

Fractional 1927 nm Thulium Laser

The 1927 nm thulium laser is particularly effective for:

  • Sunspots
  • Mottled pigmentation
  • Uneven tone
  • Early crepiness
  • Photodamage

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® for Hydration and Crepiness

Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® improves hydration, elasticity and fine crepiness but does not correct significant laxity or pigmentation.

Hyperdiluted CaHA

CaHA stimulates collagen and improves dermal support, firmness and moderate wrinkles.

IPL / Vascular Laser

Targets redness, sunspots and visible vessels.

1550 nm Erbium Glass Laser

Improves dermal texture, fine lines and early laxity.

Endolift® + CO₂ Laser

  • Endolift® improves deeper tightening
  • CO₂ laser improves surface texture and wrinkles

Endolift® + CaHA

  • Structural collagen stimulation
  • Improved firmness and support

Thulium Laser + Biostimulation

  • Thulium laser treats pigmentation
  • Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator® or CaHA improves skin quality

Laxity and Sagging

  • Endolift®
  • Hyperdiluted CaHA
  • RF microneedling

Pigmentation and Sun Damage

  • 1927 nm Thulium laser
  • IPL / DPL
  • Crepey Texture and Wrinkles

CO₂ laser

  • CaHA
  • Bio Remodelling / Bio Stimulator®
